Q: Are Labrador retrievers crossed with retrievers

Hi, My wife and are wanting to get a labrador. But have become confused. As we can find a lot of labrador retrivers. Does this mean that they are crossed with a retriever????? Or is it the name of the bread. As we looking for a purebred Labrador. Many thanks Hernan
